Psychotherapy
We all struggle at times with what life has thrown at us. This may include issues with school, with friends or family, and sometimes with ourself. Sometimes these problems can develop into persistent worrying, anxiety or low mood. Therapeutic sessions offer a space for you to explore your feelings, to find ways of managing your feelings and at times, to be able to simply be/sit with your emotions.
Depending on the nature of the underlying cause and the breadth of impact the systems around you (such as your family or school) has, the length of therapy may vary.
In general, I work with the child and the systems around them, never just the child. This is because you/the child will benefit from the help your family/school can offer and because it is important for the systems to fully understand how things are affecting you. I will further discuss what working with the systems means during our initial consultation, as confidentiality will be maintained where possible.
After an initial consultation (approximately 1.5 hours), my formulation and thereby my assessment of the issue(s) contributing to, for example anxiety or low mood, will also include a brief outline of what our sessions may look like. I have additional training in different therapeutic approaches, including the following:
-
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (Level 1)
-
Video Interaction Guidance (Stage 1/Initial training)
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Systemic/Family psychotherapy
-
Mentalization-based Therapy for adolescents (MBT-A)
-
Mentalization-based Therapy for children (MBT-C)
-
Mentalization-based Therapy for Families (MBT-F)
